The Invitation

by sweetwoodjax

A decree went through the land! The King was getting married and an invitation was extended to whomsoever will come. My heart pounded with excitement, I would be able to see the King face to face.

I bathed myself in jasmine and put on my finest raiment. I braided my hair with ten pieces of silver and made myself spotless. The invitation I held in my hand was sparkling white, imprinted with blood red letters.

I made my journey toward the city, but I got lost along the way. I fell along the wayside and my spotless clothes became dirty and tattered. My invitation, once white without a spot, was dirty beyond recognition.

However, I continued my journey. When I made it to the city gate, the pristine beauty of it took my breath away. Perfection lay before my eyes with walls of jasper and gates of pearl. Golden streets and a crystal river made its way to the throne of the King.

Looking down at my raiment and my invitation, I was overcome with shame. I had lost one of my pieces of silver. I fell to my knees in despair. Scarred hands reached down and drew me to my feet.
I heard a sweet voice whisper in my ear.

"My child, I see you are here for the wedding. Do you have your invitation?"

I cried, "Yes, sir, I do, but I bear so much filth I don't find myself worthy to enter into the city. My invitation has become damaged beyond recognition. My heart is burdened with shame."

The man with the scarred hands took the invitation from me and once again, it was sparkling white, free from the dirt that was covering it. The missing piece of silver found its way back to my hair and my rainment was made whiter than snow.

It was then I recognized the face of the King and I fell to my knees and kissed His nail scarred feet. He drew me to my feet and we went to the marriage ceremony of the Lamb.

I have taken from Luke 15: 8-10 the parable of the lost coin. Also the invitation that many ignored in Matthew 22:1-14--All our righteousness is as filthy rags-Issaih 64:6
