Desert Night

by eliz100

A wizened brown-robed monk

Knelt in silent supplication

Outside his humble hermitage

In the star-filled desert night

Experiencing great despair

Questioning his life of prayer

His soul dust-filled and bone dry

Pleading with God for consolation

Movement in the night-time sky

Caught his cataract-distorted eye

A UFO drawing quickly near

Is this real or a heavenly vision

As the small silver orb hovered

He watched with amazement and awe

As the sphere of shiny metal

Transformed into a movie screen

His soul filled to overflowing

With the essence of God's love

Many pictures lit up the screen

The fruits of his lfe of atonement

God's voice resonated in his soul

Brother your life of sacrifice

Has not been wasted but celebrated

The angels and saints watch over you

Be still and know that I am God

In times of elation and despair

Eternal gifts await you here

To glorify your life of prayer
