Loving Lexi

Background
This book is dedicated to my first grandchild. It is meant to not only chronicle my thoughts as she grows but to also share stories about her mom and dad. Of course, it is a grandmother's prerogative to add advice and snippets of wisdom now and then.

I love you in the morning

I love you late at night

I love you when I’m looking good

     and when I look a fright

I love you when you’re happy

I love you when you seem sad

I’m even going to love you when

     you make a choice that’s bad

 

I loved you while in your mommy’s womb

during winter, summer, fall

Yet, it seems just one lifetime

     may not be long enough at all

To give you all the love I have

in every conceivable way

You’ll never have to earn it

     or move too far away

 

For your heart to not touch mine

as you’ll always have the key

Nanny Jan’s love is yours to keep

     a special bond ‘twixt you and me
