Not This Time, I Fear!

Bump In The Night II Contest Winner 

Slowly, the sinister shadow moved
                                through the darkened room

It crept silently across the floor,
                                   step by step, inch by inch

Nevertheless, I quietly slipped
                                   from the safety of my bed

Into the eerie silence, listening
                                    for the shallow breathing

Sensing the climax was close at hand,
                                      I edged closer and closer

Till my fingers  touched the shadowy figure
                                      and I yelled, "Gotcha!"

Emitting a blood-curdling scream,
                                       my sibling scurried away

"Revenge is sweet," I cried. "The candy is mine!"
