A chapter in the book Dear Lexi

Tornado Warning

by Rdfrdmom2

Background
This book is dedicated to my first grandchild. It is meant to not only chronicle my thoughts as she grows but to also share stories about her mom and dad. Of course, it is a grandmother's prerogative to add advice and snippets of wisdom now and then.

secure in my arms

both hands grasping my left thumb

tornado warning

as we sit and wait

your eyes never leave the screen

gusty winds, hail storms

quietly you sit

already understanding

this is safe harbor

outside, severe storms

thunder, lightning, turbulence

potential hazards

inside, nanny’s warmth

happy hearts, shining eyes, peace

protected by love

This was the first day I ever noticed Lexi pay any attention to the television for any amount of time. I believe it was the very bright colors of the weather maps as they showed the storm cells over and over which caught her attention. I wrote this after watching her reaction. She was only 10 weeks old at the time.
