A pastiche patterned after Baby Bear, Baby Bear

A chapter in the book Dear Lexi

Alexis, Alexis

by Rdfrdmom2

Background
This book is dedicated to my first grandchild. It is meant to not only chronicle my thoughts as she grows but to also share stories about her mom and dad. Of course, it is a grandmother's prerogative to add advice and snippets of wisdom now and then.

Alexis, Alexis, what do you see?

  I see everyone

  Looking at me

Alexis, Alexis, what do you hear?

  I hear my name

  Sounding very dear

Alexis, Alexis, what do you smell?

  I smell mommy’s milk

  It surely is swell

Alexis, Alexis, what do you taste?

  I taste mom’s pure love

With not a drop to waste

Alexis, Alexis, what do you feel?

  I feel daddy’s love

  Powerful and real

Alexis, Alexis, welcome to our lair

Mom and dad can barely wait

Your arrival with others to share

Alexis, Alexis, you’re our dream come true

  Our family wouldn’t be complete

  Were it not for you

Alexis, Alexis, with your hair so red

  Couldn’t get here naturally

  Came by Cesarean instead

Alexis, Alexis, you are one pure joy

When the doc first saw you

Mom thought he called you boy

Alexis, Alexis, with your eyes of blue

There is nothing in this world

We would not do for you

Baby Bear, Baby Bear was the first book I read to my granddaughter once she got out of the womb. After the third reading at o'dark thirty Sunday morning, Baby Bear (yes, we have a stuffed Baby Bear that goes with Bill Martin, Jr.'s wonderful book) and Alexis began helping me write this as we walked around the hospital room in an effort to burp her (Lexi, not the bear). This is what eventually evolved. I have to give Baby Bear and Alexis partial credit for the writing of this pastiche.
