Limerick Contest: Just for fun - Maybe...
Tea and Crumbills
by Mrs. KT
<<<~~~>>> I sat next to the Senator at tea. Nauseating, as I feared it would be. Her rantings about oil Made her Perrier boil. Sweet Democrat! She stuck her bill with me! <<<~~~>>> |

Ah limericks! The contest requirements were to write a limerick based upon any well-known Irish limerick. I patterned the above offering after the following written by Edward Lear: It happens to be my all-time favorite.
I sat next to the Duchess at tea.
It was just as I feared it would be.
Her rumblings abdominal
Were simply abominable
And everyone thought it was me!!!!
Some may remember this version:
I sat next to the Duchess at tea.
It was just as I feared it would be.
Her rumblings abdominal
Were simply phenomenal
And everyone thought it was me!
Components:
Five lines
Rhyme Scheme: aabba
First, Second and Fifth lines should be 7 - 10 syllables
Third and Fourth lines should be 5 - 7 syllables
Often bawdy, witty, or satirical.....you decide :>)
