A bird in the branch is worth two in the barn.

Symbiosis

Ollie preened his feathers deep inside the sessile oak.
 
He nearly tumbled off his perch; the sylvan giant spoke.
 
"You rest here every twilight" resonated through the air.
 
"If we combined our forces we would make a mighty pair."
 
The wise old owl was much intrigued and wanted to hear more.
 
"What is it that you have in mind, and would it be a chore?"
 
"My roots are badly undermined by creatures that dig holes.
 
I know you like to make a snack of rabbits, mice and voles."
 
And Ollie knew from that day on he'd never miss a meal.
 
He turned his head and blinked his eyes: "why don't we seal the deal?"
