Anzac Day 25 th April

Past and Present

by Aussie

Today we honor the fallen in all wars
Across the land, every town and city
Old soldiers walk or ride to the Cenotaph
To lay wreaths and sit in silent prayer

Dawn is breaking, cold wind is blowing
Birds waking to the sun baking
The young bugler sounds revielle
Calling soldiers to pack their kit

Soldiers from the wars are among us
Their ghostly figures watch the mourners
They move silently finding their kin
Consoling their families, touching

Speeches are made, and names are read
The Honour Roll of the Dead
Sun rising warming the living
Those who can march for ancestors

They are not dead, merely sleeping
Tears shed will be wiped away
They are waiting for the living
Waiting to embrace their families
