A response to a statue

Eleven O' One

by Mark Jackson

The rust red soldier sat waiting

Under a cold midnight blue sky

Great coat pulled tight against west wind

Rifle leaning against an unmoving thigh

Fully loaded pack heavy on rigid back

Eyes lowered, remembering…

His war many years in the past

Sitting sentry over generations to come

Short and Colorful writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem which incorporates at least two colors. The idea is to use colors to infer meaning. Poem may be rhyming or not.

Eleven-O-One aka Tommy is a 9ft 5inch tall sculpture of a soldier from the First World War guarding Seaham, UK seafront. Built with weathering steel, which produces a rust red colour the soldier is captured moments after the cease-fire, taking in the peacefulness and most likely contemplating the previous four years. He is wearing his full equipment including his puttees, belt, pouches and Lee Enfield rifle.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
