Betrayal in rhyme

Caged

by Jewell McChesney

I've been on lockdown
and you hold the key
The other side of the threshold
Is waiting for me
What does it look like
on the other side
I have no idea-
the answers; they hide
I 've waited for wisdom
to shine a bright glow
A familiar knowing,
my soul needs to know
My anticipation binds truth to me
Yet only the lies
speak loudest you see
The hole in my heart
starts a crushing and pain
Thousands of tears
want to fall down like rain
I'm afraid of the flood
when they start to fall
Unable to stop them
they'll saturate all-
All the promises made
and the vows and the dreams
Will be dissipated
and burst at the seams
But all the unknowing
tears at my hopes
Because of your choices,
I barely can cope
I see no remorse,
you've not shed one tear
You had me convinced
that a future was near
Your words, say you're sorry
But sorry, the verbs
Your actions have shown me
How empty your words.
I speak- you don't listen
and blame all on me
For I pulled away when I couldn't be free
Free of the rage,
the blame and the shame
Filtered lies as you spoke
Sweet nothings that waned
Discernment had shown me
What's hidden in time
For when out of sight
I am out of your mind.
