a glass of milk

cookies to top off lunch

I think back on growing up

Wonderbread was there

through the years

sandwiches, meatloaf, bird food

a staple we never questioned

but now white bread is demonized

whole grains only for lunch

memories float around a meal

now considered unhealthy

but my aging soul cheats

Wonderbread comforts

this woman despite the

pleadings of modern health

a return to childhood

brings forth an escape

to a happier, simplier time
