Old man, young girl named Daisy bond over his flower garden

Can I Have Another Daisy?

by Norm Valentine

(Song lyrics)

She rang the bell
I opened the door
A man as old
As the dirt in his garden

My name is Daisy
I live two doors down
A girl as young
As spring sprouts in his garden

What can I do for you?
Can I see your flowers?
I'll get my shoes
And I'll show you around

It was late in the spring
I showed her my daisies
They're almost as pretty
As is your name

Oh, she needed a friend
It was I she had chosen
And why it was me
There was no way of knowing

I picked her three daisies
Placed them soft in her hand
I'm taking these home
Cause my momma is sad

She returned the next Sunday
Made both her day and mine
Gave her three golden daisies
From my garden

Every Sunday through summer
And on into autumn
Daisy came by
To get flowers for her mother

But in later September
Daisy made her last visit
Was the first time I saw
Tears on her eyes

I'll remember simple words
Momma died on Monday
You've been so kind
Can I have another daisy

That's the last time I saw her
And I'm thinking the same
I miss her so
Can I have another Daisy
