Through the glass
I see a tail
gracefully wrapped
around coral

little beings
emerge from his pouch

Daddy giving birth
it makes me wonder
What is he thinking?

Is he worried about
his hundred children?

Will they rebel against
him in adolescence?

Will he spoil them
or maybe he will eat them!

He appears calm, floating
up and down

The microscopic creatures
fan out to various
ends of the aquarium

I stay, watch, wonder
this seahorse world
draws me in,
holding me captive
stirring my imagination
as I observe one of
nature's great wonders,
