A Free Verse Love Poem

Take Me Down

by Jessica Wheeler

The author has placed a warning on this post for sexual content.

Lovers drift
on the tranquil water’s surface
content and undisrupted
in a clear and shallow stream

I smile as they glide
to mask my sympathy
before I strip down
and dive
into the depths
of your roaring sea

I've sailed calmer waters
predictable and steady
nestled, safe and sound

Yet a thirst
remained unquenched
until your taste
touched my tongue

I wondered then
what I now know
as I ride
your wild waves

I was never meant to float
but to watch as they glide
from the ocean’s floor
where you take me
to take me
again and
again

I'm tethered to you
in tempestuous tides

my body and breath,
yours
to take away
