Seasonal lesson

Fallen to Life

by Jewell McChesney

I saw a fallen leaf,
not yet withered.
It proclaimed
"You are just like me."
Once, so full of life
clinging to a Living Tree
Ever changing-
Beautifully

Seasons come
Seasons go
through winds of change
and bitter cold
Pouring rain
in days foretold...
Yet beauty forms
in all defeat
throughout the storms
and searing heat

On another
well walked path
Another leaf declared
" I've fallen from
a drifting wind
I floated through brisk air
The passersby
ignored my pleas
they never seemed to care."
But if I were not
where I sit today,
I'd never thought
of looking up
or had a learning day.

Weeks later
on that golden trail
I found it once again
Blanketed in frosty white
lay my fallen friend
Contentment
was her garment
Revelation
came to me
The lesson taught
by this small life
was meant to set me free

Where do I cling
when winds of life
stir my very core
Do I strive to hang on tight
or fly to brighter shores
