Empty chairs on holidays

Remember When

by Sandtana Kay

Remember when Thanksgiving
was a happy time?
Mom and Dad and all the kids
together sat down.

Turkey dinner and pumpkin pie.
Every chair filled
at the table,
as years went by.

As children grew
and moved away,
some chairs sat empty
on Thanksgiving day.

Soon more chairs were added
as the families grew.
Small hands gave thanks
as they watched their parents do.

As we age, sorrow comes and goes.
Again chairs will sit empty
as we remember the people
that once sat in those.

Jesus is preparing a banquet table.
There will be no empty chairs.
Once again we will see our loved ones,
for all are invited there.
