From Teenager to Seenager!

by Mimi Linny

Now that I’m over 70
And have time to reflect
About the things throughout my youth
I thought I should reject
Or thought that I had needed
And without could not endure
I find I FINALLY have them all
And love them even more!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I’ve everything that I desired
And wanted as a “teenager”
But find that I now have them all
Since I’ve become a “seenager!

I do not have to go to school
And work no longer can
But monthly still, allowance get
From Good Ol’ Uncle Sam!

I have a pad I call my own
A license and a van
I’ve changed its “honk” to cannon shots
So hog the road....  I can

Don’t have that monthly worry since
No longer need the pill
If in the “family-way” I’m found
T’would truly be a miracle!

No workout plan for me today
That’s five years in a row
My Dr. says to exercise
Or down the hill my health will go

I really do appreciate
Doc looking after me
But think I’d rather much believe
My own "seenage" philosophy
For
If wanting me to touch my toes
(I think you will agree)
When God made hands & fingertips
He’d put them on each knee!

My bathroom John I’ve re-named Jim
So honestly can say
When people ask I tell them true
“Went to the "Jim" today!"

Rememb’ring back on all those years
When I was just a kid
And nap-time felt like punishment
That daily I would dread

It seems I misinterpreted
That “recess” for “time-out”
For naps are small vacations now
I cannot live without!

I never say I have gray hair
The strands of color turned
Are simply Wisdom Highlights
That I’m proud to say I’ve earned

The biggest lie I tell myself…
My memory’s sharp and sound
And since I’m sure I won’t forget
Don’t have to write things down

But even if my mem’ry lags
I can’t forget somehow… if
         I’d just invented sticky-notes
At least I'd be rich now!

Well, who’d have thought that at this age
My dreams would come belated
And fill my life with new-found bliss
To be appreciated

Yes, golden years are full of gifts
                That shouldn’t feel like woes
With positive expression
Silver linings they’ll expose

And words from this re-furbished wreck
One antique turned anew
I hope you’ll find within yourself
A young “seenager,” too!
