A lauranelle for the Potlatch Club

Wisdom and Insight

Have I o'er time become the wise old owl

collecting knowledge in a treasure chest -

with penetrating insight 'neath the scowl?


Appreciating how my life's been blessed,

I often try to comfort those who grieve -

show empathy to those who seem distressed.


In days of youth we seldom can conceive

how suddenly our circumstances change.

For miracles we pray - we must believe.



It's stressful when we have to rearrange

our days and nights to care for one who's lost

within a fearful world that deems all strange.


We give our best no matter what the cost,

in honor of the life we have enjoyed.

Upon our hearts sweet moments are embossed.


Such challenges in life we can't avoid.

With inner strength we strive to pass each test.

We won't allow our joy to be destroyed.


On final count, the good outweighs the bad.

Let's focus on the happy days we've had.

Have I o'er time become the wise old owl

It was bittersweet watching my father-in-law
take care of his dear wife when she came down with Alzheimerâ??s. His courage helped me deal with my husbandâ??s stroke years later. We do become stronger with each challenge. And, hopefully, wiser.
