Why Can't You Love Me?

by Michael Bowman

Why can't you love me now
The way you once loved him?
I've seen you kiss the frame
You save his picture in.
I've felt you stare through me
In search of long ago
The shadow of first love
A place I'll never know.
I've heard you call his name
Forgetful of my face
The years I've spent by you
All vanished without trace.

Why can't you care for me
The way you worshipped him?
I long to share the warmth
You hide so deep within.
Why can't you run to me
Like I'm your everything?
Why can't you love me now
The way that you loved him?
