Daddy

My Daddy

by belinda45

Happy, joyful, playful and sad;
Angry, resentful, perfectionistic, too.
All these things made up my dad.
Complicated, loving, and full of truth.

I found myself haunted, afraid
I'd never be able to get it right
So, I rebelled in angry disdain,
Rather than choose to fight the good fight.

I wanted to be daddy's girl
Behave the way he wanted.
Lost and trapped in my own world
I remained separate, haunted.

As time went by I came to know
The savior, wonderful counselor
He'd met all those years ago.
He loved daddy so much more.

He showed me all daddy's pain
And heartaches that compelled
The choices he had made
That left me an empty shell.

He showed me all my own mistakes
Brought on by my condition
Which prompted me to shift my take
On him and his position.

I'm thankful for His mercy
That granted me the time
To see daddy's hidden treasure
And be grateful he was mine.

He showed me, too, his specialty
In the heart of daddy's world.
And now I know what I longed to be
I'm daddy's cherished little girl.

I cried while writing this poem. Very vulnerable moment.
