Wouldn't it be wonderful to be as free as a butterfly?

Idolflight

by GeraldShuler

I watched a butterfly today
partly floating, partly jerking
always playing, never working

but he stayed not long, then flew away
so I followed, eyes uplifted,
followed my butterfly as he drifted

he flew places I couldn't go
through the skies, above the steeple,
high above the lonely people

and he knew things I'll never know
how we live and how we die
why we laugh and why we cry

oh, to be as free as he
I'd fly high both day and night
I'd make reality fade from sight

but then I watched my idol die
low flight, passing car,
quick death, carried far.

now all I do is wonder why
I wanted to be that butterfly

The life of a.... writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem adout "the life of a..." something, anything, person, place, or thing. Be creative! Any style of poem.

I know... a butterfly would not know what this one did. Don't we all have times when we lose sight of our own grandness because of misperceptions about the grandness of others? Trust your own grandness... God gave it to you for a reason.
