He appeared at my door.

The Visitor

by pookietoo

I awoke at the break of dawn.
I sighed and let out a big yawn.
Several questions filled my mind.
Today what ways will I be kind?

Should I call a friend on the phone,
Or visit someone that's alone?
There's people that need help each day.
On my knees I began to pray.

Then I heard a knock on my door.
There was a child, forlorn and poor.
He said "I have such aching feet.
I don't have anything to eat."

I thought of Christ, a sinless man.
I said, "I will do what I can."
I gave him ham and bread to eat;
Some cash so he could buy a treat.

The child thanked me and went his way.
This was the start of a good day.
I want to lend a listening ear
And spread sunshine, laughter, and cheer.
