Waiting Game

by Begin Again

“Dear God, I’ve prayed for Mike to wake up, to come back to us, but nothing changes.” I rested my head against the pew in front of me. “It’s almost three months.”

The stained glass windows cast a rainbow across the floor.

“Mrs. Jessup?” A hand touched my shoulder. I jumped. “Sorry. The doctor wants to see you.”

“Is it Mike? Is something wrong?” Fear washed over me.

Terrified, I rushed to my husband’s room. The doctor stood behind the curtain. I stepped inside expecting the worst.

Our eyes met. Tears flowed. My hubby offered a quirky grin.

“He’s awake!”

I looked up flash fiction - Generally, flash encompasses both fiction and nonfiction. It straddles the line between poetry and longer fiction. Between poetry and long-form creative nonfiction. The term flash refers to the form's length

Because after writing the story, I wondered if it qualified. Since I did not see any specific guidelines, I googled. It is based on our lives, but not specifically written as fact. If I am wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. Smiles and have a great day!
