Sonnet

...and for the Defence

by kiwisteveh

I blame that little minx -- you know the one
with cutesy cape and hood of brightest red.
The basket that she carried, from her Mum,
was for her Grandma -- least that's what she said.

And so I ran ahead to pave the way,
prepare ol' Granny for her coming guest,
but found the cottage empty. Now, I pray
you'll understand, I felt the need to rest.

The drama that unfolded..... well, you've heard.
That business with the eyes, the ears, the teeth,
was so exaggerated, quite absurd.
Though I have wolfish features, look beneath.

That woodsman fell on his own lethal axe;
and Little Red and Grandma? Heart attacks!
