Minute Poem

My Child

by kiwisteveh

My child, it comes as no surprise
     his words were lies,
     and broken trust
     churns love to dust.

My child, I see how your heart bleeds,
     a wound that pleads
     for love again,
     an end to pain.

My child, I'll wipe away your tears
     and still your fears.
     When things turn bad,
     just run to Dad.

Recognized

I guess this is dedicated to all those other fathers - you know, the ones who are not abusers, who don't abandon their families or play around....

In my writing pad, there are a few poems in various states of completion that didn't get posted last year... because I didn't finish them, or I missed a deadline, or just because I wasn't happy with them. This is one of them...

I am still not happy with the ending - it feels 'corny.' Plus, I could never make up my mind whether this should be a father speaking to his daughter or, ith a couple of changes, another lover waiting for his chance to step in...

Tell me what you think.
