Kyrielle Sonnet Contest entry

Priorities

by kiwisteveh

The love that we knew has grown cold,
As cold as the grey morning sky.
You'll not be surprised to be told -
It's breakfast and then it's goodbye.

We promised to have and to hold,
For better or worse, till we die.
Those vows were too hard to uphold;
It's breakfast and then it's goodbye.

It's no use to curse, cry or scold,
To sweet-talk, to plead or to sigh.
I won't be coerced or cajoled.
It's breakfast and then it's goodbye.

The love that we knew has grown cold;
It's breakfast and then it's goodbye.
