and yet
we are connected
subjected
to living
and dead
with unbreakable thread
knitted and fitted
stretched and perplexed
considered, configured
elemental but gentle
to gather in reach
each
of the others
our brothers
and sisters
insisting they glisten
by starlight
in far night
where words they have written
like birds in a garden
fly out of the willow
to flitter and pardon
or ripple
and
billow
the streams of your dreams
and whisper the names
of the silent
the violent
the too sentimental
the temperamental
who loved for an instant
the guilty
and innocent
high on repentance
a sentence for sinners
beginners and winners
and losers and users
all bound
in the net

and yet

we have never
met

I turned on the tap and this poured out. I was thinking about entering it in the free verse contest, but the rules said no rhyme - another one of those crazy stipulations - of course free verse can have rhyme, because it's free...
