A Counting Poem
A river-captain chap I know
Has ONE smooth cat, whose name is Flo,
While Ed Rice-Burroughs, Jungle Lane,
Has TWO fierce cats, Tarzan and Jane.
THREE cats next door with Doctor Floyd,
JoCatsa, Greedy-Puss and Boyd,
While Cousin Kelly lives with FOUR,
There's Pushy, Purrfect, Ramses, Roar.
"Who has FIVE cats?" I hear you ask;
Think Milly Mogg's up to the task?
A tabby, Stripe, a ginger, Tom,
Then Whiskers, Wilson, BeetleBomb.
That Lady Muck of Munchkin Hall
Has SIX cats! Can you name them all?
Demelza, Rosco, Patty-Paws,
And kittens Squeak and Squawk and Jaws.
Now one, two, three, four, five, six, SEVEN,
My Auntie May's in puss-cat heaven,
With Wobbly, Wilbur, Pumpkin, Patch,
And Shampoo, Charlotte, Bandersnatch.
Old Sergeant Twinkle's my best mate;
How many cats? You guessed it -- EIGHT.
There's George and Mildred, Becks and Posh,
And Catman, Bobbin, Lotser, Dosh.
My Grandma, though she's ninety-two,
Still has NINE cats (That's quite a Phew!)
There's Eeny, Meeny, Mo and Miney,
And Bob, Ted, Carol, Alice, Tiny.
Now who's so mad they'd have TEN cats?
Why, that is ME! I've Bones and Fats,
And Jump, Jog, Jiggle, Jock and Jim,
With brothers Wright and Marx and Grimm.
That's FIFTY-FIVE amazing cats -
No wonder we don't have no rats!
