Winken, Blinken and Nod

by kiwisteveh

Winken, Blinken and Nod
Had worked till their backs were all kinkin'.
"Let's go find a boat and a rod!"
Cried Blinken. "It's fish-time I'm thinkin'."

Herr Blinken, Herr Nod and Herr Winken
Were alike as three peas in a pod.
"Twas the very same think we was thinkin'!"
Cried weary old Winken and Nod.

Excited, the cheery wee squad
packed up a few ales to be drinkin'.
Then Winken and Blinken and Nod
Set forth on the sea without shrinkin'.

Their luck catchin' fish, it was stinkin';
Not a kingfish, a carp or a cod
On the ends of their lines was a-plinkin'.
Said Blinken, "Oh, I've been a clod!"

"This boat is a shoe which is odd;
And look at that spot which is chinkin'.
I wish that we'd had it re-shod
Our shoe-boat is shafted, it's sinkin'!"

Is a tear in your eye, there a-winkin'
For Winken and Blinken and Nod?
A whale neath the boat had been slinkin',
And came to their rescue, thank God!

Quatrain Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
A quatrain is a poem that has four lines for each stanza. It usually has rhyme scheme of abab or its variant, xbyb. Click here for an example.

The discernin' reader will observe that Winken, Blinken and Nod fail to observe the niceties of correct English, possibly as a result of the failure of the modern education system.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
