'Write about this' contest

Grandpa, you're dreaming again

by kiwisteveh

I'd like to tread them railway lines
Until they bloomin' vanish;
And then I'd toast my love at dawn
In French, or maybe Spanish.

I'd like to kick the winning goal
At Twickenham or Wembley,
Or woo the war-mad world to peace
At UN's grand Assembly.

I'd like to pilot rocket-ships
That dance among the stars;
Discover long-lost relatives
On Jupiter and Mars.

I'd like to see my name in lights,
Give Hollywood a whirl;
I could play the sneering villain
Or the bloke who gets the girl.

Well, I'd better get my skates on
Cos I'm nearly ninety-one
And the footy's on the telly -
I can't start till that is done!

A Poem About This contest entry

Recognized

Twickenham - the home stadium of English Rugby - where the All Blacks will win the World Cup later this year.
Wembley - home stadium of that other football code - the silly one where they have a round ball.
footy on the telly = football (soccer) on the television (TV) - it is almost a religion for many English people to watch the Match of the Day...
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
