Sonnet

Sweet Refrain

Oh, I can write a sonnet, sure enough;
I'll jingle those iambics from the start.
My rhymes will mark the beat, I know my stuff;
Shall I compare thee to a singing heart?

In stanza two I'll tune that metaphor,
Bring in some strings, perhaps a clarinet;
Develop themes and let the music soar,
A symphony to match our sweet duet.

But now we reach the volta (that's the turn)
A darker movement, p'raps a minor key.
The heat of love may sometimes blaze and burn;
Our hearts still beat in perfect harmony.

Forever tied together we'll remain,
Until the end, the couplet's slow refrain.
