Behind the Door Contest Entry

Don't Look Now

Behind The Door Contest Winner

Behind the door's a pile of dust;
I'll vacuum soon; I must! I must!
But first I'll pick up that old sock
So that my Hoover pipe won't block.

And look, there are my third-best knickers!
How did they get....? Oh! (quietly snickers)
Those keys that vanished last September -
Changed all the locks, as I remember.

A gas bill, seven lollipops,
With tiny teeth-marks on their tops;
A Christmas card from cousin Sue -
My God, it's post-marked Kathmandu!

A dozen pens, some paper-clips
And half a pack of PG Tips,
A fax machine, still in its carton,
Some records.... Oooh! They're Dolly Parton!

That spider's web, strong as a net -
And there's the blighter spinning yet.
What's that he's trapped? looks like a whippet;
I'll need hedge clippers just to snip it.

Could that be Elvis under there?
And Michael Jackson, by the hair?
A pyramid, some standing stones,
Lord Lucan holding Shergar's bones.

Jimmy Hoffa, Harold Holt,
Davy Crockett, Samuel Colt,
The Queen of Hearts, the King of Spain,
Amelia Earhart in her plane.

Harry Potter's black-rimmed specs,
Uh-oh, Tyrannosaurus Rex...
Quick, slam the door, let's not go near;
Perhaps I'll clean that room next year!

Recognized

Anyone else have a door in their house that is so seldom closed that you never actually look behind it.... until it's too late!

PG Tips - a brand of tea (UK)
standing stones - such as those at Stonehenge
Lord Lucan - a British peer, suspected of murder, who disappeared without trace in 1974
Shergar - a champion Irish racehorse who was stolen, never to be seen again, in 1983
Jimmy Hoffa - an American labour union leader who vanished in late July 1975, presumed killed.
Harold Holt - Australian Prime Minister who vanished while swimming at a beach in 1967, presumed drowned. Is Australia the only country to ever lose its Prime Minister?
