An italian Sonnet

This I know

by kiwisteveh

Enwrap the stars with gloomy velvet shroud,
conceal in darkness lovers' moon that gleams
on passion's deeds. Cast out romantic dreams
and cover heaven's shrine with louring cloud.
A spirit that was battered, never bowed,
a soul that sang of oceans, mountain streams,
of love and life, of life and love's extremes,
has left us grieving, yet we may be proud.

For though a friend's departed, this I know,
a writer never truly dies, they live
within us, as we read each treasured page.
A smile, a thought, a touch to soothe our woe
lends comfort in the crafted words to give
a promise that unlocks our earthly cage.
