Surcease

by adewpearl

When first light arrives at last
and the bleak of night has passed,
comes that momentary hush
just before the morning rush.

In this hush of dawn so calm,
silence forms a wordless psalm
when first light arrives at last
and the bleak of night has passed.

There's no need for starlings' song
or for me to sing along
in this hush of dawn so calm
as the silence forms a psalm.

Nothing speaks so much of peace
than when words have found surcease.
There's no need for starlings' song
or for me to sing along.

Many clamor to be heard,
when their speech should be deferred.
Nothing speaks so much of peace
than when words have found surcease.

Many thanks to rajupoojar for this stunning photo.
Thanks also to Honeycomb/Nancy, who recently invented this mirage form.
The poem consists of an unspecified number of quatrains of 7 syllable lines. The rhyme scheme is AAbb ccAA ddCC eeDD ffEE. The uppercase letters denote which lines are repeated, so that the first two lines of one stanza become the last two lines of the next stanza. In this poem I have modified that repetition in stanza three.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
