Winter's Lifetime

by Mike K2

Perception's vision is muted by grey's shroud;
light is obscured days on end from cloud.
One's own comfort and heat seem taken away,
as chill becomes more pronounced by the day.

Life's rain becomes a more challenging slippery glassine;
or glittery crystalline and treacherous, though scenic and pristine.
Through nature's bunting, footsteps silenced, heart now felt;
or crashing though glaze, louder with each pace being dealt.

Winter's deadness is framed with tree's dignity stripped;
more defined as no animals stir, as if taken by death's grip.
Heat from a hearth, reminds one of summer's past,
creates a yearning for a new one to make its way fast.

Taken for granted the people you once constantly saw,
now celebratory gatherings are welcomed with festive draw.
Austere and lonely, cloistered and dampened, our minds;
Blessed with the slightest hint of activity we seek to find.

Winter's death is welcomed, but seldom observed;
the jewel cases around the buds melt, its purpose served.
Through the virgin white, splashes of color becomes known.
Winter passes ... New life, spirit and energy now grow'n!
