Free verse written for my grand daughter
Texas Saturday Night
by justjo66
Out in the West on a Saturday night
The lights can be seen far and wide Horses, cattle, laughter and cheering Come on along, let me be your guide. Bronc busting, steer wrestling, bull riding and girls barrel racing. Buckles to be won and money, too. All in a good nights ride. Rodeo clowns with painted faces Tall slim men in tight jeans, Stetsons pulled down low Belt buckles the size of saucers Girls in fancy boots trying to catch a beau Smells of popcorn, spicy cologne and horse manure All mingle in the clear night air Tickle my nose and senses By golly this is better than mending fences! Part II Pickup trucks, horse trailers and Blue Heeler pups After the rodeo they'll be found Down at the Dead Horse Lounge Strands of George Strait and Willie Nelson can be heard above the din Boots heel and toe to the Cotton-Eyed Joe Girls at the table waiting for a spin Long necks and prize belt buckles flashing in the dim light All part of the fun Texas Saturday night. |
I wrote this for my grand daughter Emily who barrel races. Her picture is the one above.
