I read on the internet today
that you had passed away.
I had not thought of you for years
when I read it...the news brought tears.

I remember you in High School
So many of the students treated you cruel.
I wasn't one of them.
I never was one to condemn.

Your blonde hair was often dirty and shaggy.
Your clothes old and baggy.
In your blue eyes I could see the pain.
Not many realized you had a good brain.

Your only crime
You lived in a shack with so much grime.
A house filled with mouths to feed.
Your earliest feelings were of want and need.

I hope you found a good life.
Lord knows your childhood was filled with strife.
