We Miss You

by justjo66

How do we go on from here?
We miss you so much.
The tears we've shed are so many.
The memories so vivid.
The hole you left so large.

There are not many days that I don't think about you.
The slightest things bring you to mind.
Memories like wispy butterfly wings
settle on me at the strangest times.
Your presence so close some days
and other times you seem so far away.
How far is Heaven?

Life seems more fleeting and precious now.
The fragile reality, this loneliness
is something overwhelming.

Lonely Poem writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a free verse poem to express the state of loneliness in not more than 15 lines.

This was written after my Daddy passed away. We miss him so much. It is intentional...the changing of the point of view. I started out with the "we" because of an entire family feeling and switched over to the "I" to demonstrate my own personal tradegy. He left a lonely place in our hearts. Thank you to rodgeyog for the beautiful picture. My dad died from leukemia and this picture touched my heart because it reminded me how in my Dad's last days how he would sit outside in a chair and feed the little squirrels that came up to him. He loved the outdoors.
