A Flip-Flop Sonnet
Hocus Pocus
by kiwisteveh
Advice for razzle-dazzle girl or boy
When faced with hurly-burly of romance: One should not stoop to mix with hoi-polloi; Their mumbo-jumbo may induce a trance. They speak of argy-bargy and the like And harum-scarum exploits down the street, Of hanky-panky 'hind the 'shed de bike'; Such tittle-tattle tales they think are sweet. But you are born of super-duper stock; Higgledy-piggledy love is not for you. Such flibbertigibbet games are just a crock For one whose hoity-toity blood is blue. Though helter-skelter types may warm your bed, Do not choose willy-nilly when you wed. |

Blame it on the hurdy-gurdy man and too much hokey-pokey ice-cream!
Flip-flop words are rhyming compounds like roly-poly and dilly-dally. I started with the idea of creating a contest with this as the theme, but then I wrote this as an example and stole all the best words!
Just in case that wasn't silly enough, in a moment of mania I decided to write my exemplar as a Shakespearean sonnet, wrangling my hodge-podge of flip-flops around iambic pentameter.
Enjoy!
P.S. Please don't be a fuddy-duddy and be offended by this fiddle-faddle. The nitty-gritty is that it's all wishy-washy.
