If Solace Be in Silence Found
by adewpearl
If solace be in silence found, what do we find in nature's sound? The trilling voices joined in song when peepers gather in a throng The rushing of a waterfall to waiting pond from stony wall The honks of gray geese passing by in V-shaped travel through the sky The cawing of the nesting rook in trees that shade the burbling brook The nighttime cries of hooting owl in harmony with wolf pack's howl The patter of a gentle rain as jonquils spring to life again If solace be in silence found, what do we find in nature's sound? |

I know from an earlier time I wrote about peepers that these are less familiar to readers than some creatures - they are small frogs that gather in huge numbers as their song heralds the start of spring. The Wikipedia article about them has a good audio clip.
I realize there could be dozens more examples/couplets in this poem - it occurred to me this could be a good teaching tool by inviting students to add their own couplets.
