You'll Find No Sound More Tender
by adewpearl
You'll find no sound more tender than blue jay's shrill alarm, her raucous orchestration to save her babes from harm. Though songbirds may sound sweeter, their calls a lullaby, love lives in the salvation of mother's warning cry. |

The warning call of the blue jay can sound like the unpleasant scream of the gull. The more agitated it becomes, the higher the shrill pitch. These calls are most often made to gather other jays so they can band together to protect their nests from approaching predators, such as the hawk.
