I walked along a storm-strewn beach
and found a fallen star.
It may have lost an arm or two,
but it had traveled far.

Among detritus in the sand
this star no longer gleamed,
but I remembered how it glowed
as through the sky it beamed.

Not knowing if a damaged star
could grant a wish for me,
I took a chance that prayers are heard,
imperfect though they be.
