three rhyming quatrains
When Poetry Speaks
by adewpearl
When poetry speaks I listen to all that our world has to tell, from streamlets that gurgle and glisten to rivers that roar as they swell. When poetry speaks I tarry to learn what the lyrics contain as larks in the meadow are singing sweet songs in melodic refrain. When poetry speaks I hearken to hear all its secrets unfold, so I, in my poor way, might echo the beauty of all I've been told. |

Each quatrain has syllable count of 8/8/9/8. The meter is a mixture of iambic and anapestic feet - just read it naturally. Each verse is composed with identical rhythm and inflection.
"Poetry Speaks" is the title of a book which contains cd's of famous poets reciting their own work. I looked up on my shelf, saw the title, and started to write :-)
