Battlefield Lament

by adewpearl

No flow'rs need be seeded
so florid blossoms bloom.
Red blood flows free on these fields --
save poppies for the tomb.

Naani contest entry

Recognized

A naani is a four line poem of 20-25 syllables - this one has 25. The subject matter is most often about current affairs or the human condition.
Florid can mean ruddy, as in a ruddy complexion, freshly and healthily red, or it can mean adorned with flowers. I have purposely chosen this word instead of scarlet or crimson, for instance, for its ironic implications.
Poppies are bright red flowers often used in remembrance of those who have died in service of their country.
