The triolet is a centuries old French poetic form first sung by troubadors in the Middle Ages. It consists of only eight lines in iambic meter with a rhyme scheme of ABaAabAB. The capital letters designate repeated lines, so that line 1 is repeated as lines 4 and 7, and line 2 is repeated as line 8.
