modified triolet
A chapter in the book Triolets: Traditional and Modified
When First I Wished
by adewpearl
When first I wished upon a star
I had a small child's innocence, a pure belief doubts could not mar when first I wished upon a star, but shattered dreams have left a scar, and I've not had the same faith since when first I wished upon a star with wide-eyed hope and innocence. |

The triolet is a centuries old French repeating form of poetry. The rhyme scheme is ABaAabAB. In the traditional triolet the first line is repeated in the fourth and seventh lines, and the second line is repeated as the eighth line. In this poem the second line is not repeated exactly but modified in the eighth line. For any who don't approve of modifying traditional forms, just consider it a poem.
