Reluctant Ode

by adewpearl

The Yankees won; I want to stew --
they beat my Phillies, brave and true.
If my boys won, I would have crowed,
but since we lost, I owe this ode.

They beat my team with ball and bat,
so now to them I tip my hat.
The team of Ruth, and Mantle too,
are champs once more, what can I do?

I made a bet, my debt is paid --
I've said, "Good job." I've hip-hurrayed.
I won't be bitter, no not I --
"The Yankees won," just hear me cry.

My good friend Amicus bet me his team would beat my team, the defending champs, in the World Series, and so they did last night. I had to pay up by writing the Yankees an ode. There was no clause that said it had to be heartfelt. ;-)
