Man on the Moon
by adewpearl
The moon made all things seem possible with that giant leap for mankind. A decade of turbulence in one step left behind. With forty years passed I'm sad to ask -- have moon dreams turned to dust? |

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped on to the moon as millions and millions of people sat glued to their television sets. Ask anyone old enough how captivated our families were that night and how filled with optimism so many people felt. Interview after interview with those who remember that historic event express a sense of optimism, a belief that this signaled a new era of peace and possibilities after a decade of war and protest, racism and riots, terrible assassinations. Few people thought of this only as a scientific achievement. The night was charged with magical thinking. Sometimes I wonder, what happened to the magic?
