Walter Cronkite: in Memoriam

by adewpearl

That day
when Camelot
crashed down to crush our dreams,
we knew our lives had changed when your
voice cracked.

Recognized

Many of us grew up on Walter Cronkite. News of his passing last night totally floored me. I remember the glory of his reporting of man's first step on the moon, and the pride I
felt in his bravery when he voiced his opinion that it was time the Vietnam War come to an end. But nothing stays more in my mind than when he announced that our President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, had been pronounced dead. Walter Cronkite, that man whose voice was so sure and authoritative, the consummate newsman, could not get through those few sentences without his voice cracking with emotion. For any of our younger members who might not know, JFK's Presidency, because it was filled with hope and the vibrancy of his youthful family, was known as Camelot.
The cinquain is a five line poem written in 2/4/6/8/2 syllables. The title is considered a sixth and significant line.
